What to Expect From the iPhone 15 - Major Design Changes!

Story

Although the iPhone 15 won’t be released any time soon, there have been many leaks and rumours regarding changes that could come to the new iPhone (specifically in the design department).

Twitter user ShrimpApplePro recently reported that the back edges of the iPhone 15 will have a new rounded design, creating a new border design at the back edge corner. He compared this design to the iPhone 5C in terms of the fact that the sides and front of the phone are still fully flat, but the back edges will be rounded. He also hinted at a material change for the iPhone 15, stating that the unreleased device will be made of titanium.

One more change rumoured to come to the iPhone is the introduction of haptic buttons. This report comes courtesy of one of Apple’s very own suppliers - Cirrus Logic. Although worded cleverly, a letter sent out by the company pretty much confirmed that an iPhone with a haptic engine system instead of mechanical buttons will come. This change is likely to come exclusively on pro models but judging by Apple’s past decisions, I expect it to branch down to all models as time goes on.

My Take

I would love it if Apple released the iPhone 15 with the rumoured rounded edges design as it will make the phone much more comfortable in the hands and I think it looks better with rounded edges.

On the other hand, I am sceptical about if Apple will be able to properly implement a titanium casing into their smartphones. Titanium has benefits such as added rigidity and durability. However, I am worried about how the inclusion of titanium into the phone’s casing would affect its price and weight as titanium is about 60% heavier than aluminium (the current casing on the iPhone 14), and generally costs more.

A buttonless iPhone 15, or more to the point, an iPhone with haptic buttons was the last big design change rumoured to come to the device. And as long as the haptic buttons feel the same when pressed and are as durable as mechanical buttons, I honestly won’t have a problem with them.
